Abstract

The Almajiri culture is a reality in the cultural life of Nigerian people. It is widely
practiced in Northern Nigeria. This practice is widespread even in contemporary
times. Consequently, this study used primary and secondary data to document the
culture of Almajiri system in Northern Nigeria. The primary data were collected
through interviews from randomly selected informants. It found that the Almajiri
culture is characterised with social crisis, suffering and culture of abandonment,
thereby necessitating a continuous interrogation and recommendation on the
strategies to manage it. It recommends multidimensional strategies of human
capital empowerment towards the transformation of the Almajiri culture, which
is expected to drive development in Northern Nigeria.
